The European Academy of Design (http://www.europeanacademyofdesign.org) was formed in 1994 to promote the publication and dissemination of research in design through conferences hosted by different educational institutions in Europe and the publication of proceedings, newsletters and a journal, to improve European wide research collaboration and dissemination.

It aims to encourage discussion across traditional boundaries between practice and theory, and between disciplines defined by working media, materials and areas of application.

The Academy is headed by a committee of leading academics from across Europe, as well as from the United States and Australia. Membership is open to all of those interested in design research, whether academic, student, or practitioner.

The Academy has to date hosted six international conferences:

1995 Salford, UK: Design Interfaces
1997 Stockholm, Sweden: Contextual Design
1999 Sheffield, UK: Design Cultures
2001 Aveiro, Portugal: Desire - Designum - Design
2003 Barcelona, Spain: Techné: Design Wisdom
2005 Bremen, Germany: Design - System - Evolution
