Dean's Message

Dear Students,

Design is not only about creating objects, spaces, or visual worlds; it is also a way to understand, question, and transform the world we live in. Therefore, we approach design education as a learning process in which creative thinking develops alongside responsibility and openness to change.

At the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Izmir University of Economics, we see research and practice as integral parts of education. Bringing different design disciplines together within the same academic environment allows our students to deepen their knowledge in their own fields while encountering different perspectives and developing their ability to think across disciplines.

Our aim is not only to equip our students with professional knowledge and skills, but also to encourage them to develop their own approaches to design and to become creative individuals who are open to change and aware of their environmental and social responsibilities. University–industry collaborations, national and international academic partnerships, exhibitions, workshops, projects, and diverse learning experiences are all integral parts of this education.

Today, design education faces many new questions, ranging from sustainability and emerging technologies to changing modes of production and broader social transformations. Our goal is for our Faculty not just to react to these changes, but to actively shape them through research, innovation, and teamwork.

We are delighted to welcome you to a creative community where different disciplines learn from one another, ideas can be shared freely, and students are encouraged to discover their own paths.
